Conquering Place examines US military presence in Germany, by interweaving archival footage, found photos, current images of abandoned or re-appropriated bases, and performative actions. In the film metaphors such as square dancing and architectural constructs are used to suggest ambiguous structures and their impact on interpersonal and physical relationships. Delving into the cultural debris from the dwindling occupation of the US Armed Forces, the artist presents an intimate viewpoint told by a female civilian in the male-dominated world of the military.
